Happy Spring with Gorgeous Spring Table Decor

By the time February 14th has passed, I’m all in for spring.

I’m in Tennessee now (former New Yorker), and while our winters are shorter and the daffodil shoots are popping up in February, I’m still doing all I can to force spring to come a little quicker, if only in my own house.

And I love starting with a spring tablescape.

40+ Breathtaking Spring Tablescapes and Centerpiece Ideas (1)

When I decorate for Valentine’s Day, I lean more toward a spring theme (lots of soft pinks and greens) instead of a winter theme (whites and reds).

It makes a transition to spring a lot easier.

I’ll usually add in the other spring pastels like green, yellow, and light blue later on, but this usually gives me something to fill the space when the Valentine’s Day decor is coming down and the spring decor is going up.

My Valentine’s Day table had lots of spring touches, so while I was transitioning, I really just needed to remove the heart bowls and marshmallow heart pops. T

The rest could stay for a spring transition version!

40+ Breathtaking Spring Tablescapes and Centerpiece Ideas (2)

But let’s talk today specifically about spring dining tables.

What to Consider When Decorating a Spring Dining Table

There is really no right or wrong way to decorate your table for spring.

There are so many vibes you can have, and it really is just about your preference.

Different Decor Styles for Spring

You can go charming and rustic.

You can go for a modern or minimalist spring table.

You can use soft pastels or vibrant bright colors or just stick with a very nature-inspired green and white (white flowers and outdoorsy greens are amazing choices for this).

You can go romantic or you can go vintage.

You can go neutral and monochromatic (yes, even for spring).

One thing I’d recommend for whatever style you choose is to come up with a color scheme.

By deciding your color palette ahead of time, you will ensure that your table (and home) doesn’t look overdone and mixy-matchy with no cohesiveness.

Whatever the vibe that is already in your home, you can keep that up for your spring table as well as for your spring decor.

Simple or Complex Spring Dining Tables

When it comes to decorating your table for spring, you mostly want to think about your lifestyle and how you’ll be using the area.

Is your table kid central (like mine), where the family plays, does homework, leave all things, and yes, even eats there sometimes, too?

Is your table big enough to leave a tablescape in place while you eat, if it is a functional dining table?

If your table is a super-busy area or one that isn’t especially large, simple is probably best. You likely won’t want to leave out place settings (maybe placemats, if you like).

A simple singular centerpiece or a spring vignette on a tray or in a basket (something that can be moved easily) is probably most functional for your home and lifestyle.

Is your dining area mostly formal and unused, primarily display purposes?

Are you planning a tablescape for a particular event, like an Easter dinner, family get-together, or lunch with sweet friends?

If that’s the case, you probably have a lot more room to create: an entire pretty table that is the whole look with place settings, festive napkin rings, dinner plates, glassware, and all kinds of embellishments.

What to Include on a Spring Dining Table

To figure out on what exactly you should put on your table, here are a few things I like to think through first.

1| Decide How You’re Arranging Your Table

First, you want to decide the end goal for your table.

Do you just want a simple centerpiece?

Do you want a tablescape that runs through the center?

Do you want to include place settings as well?

That will determine what you’ll include on your table and what you may need to purchase.

2| Shop Your Home First

While you certainly can go out to Hobby Lobby and buy all the spring things, I always like to shop my home first and see what I can reuse and repurpose.

(For my best budget home decor tips, you can take a look here!).

I’m talking about bottles, jars, baskets, trays risers, candles and candlesticks, etc. – the non seasonal decorations that can be included just about in any season – for our purposes, used in spring decorations.

If you’re doing a tablescape, maybe you already have more neutral table runners or green garlands.

You definitely can use those and add in accents that have a spring feel.

If you’re including place settings, you may have neutral placemats and white plates that can be used.

Then maybe you just want to purchase spring-themed linen napkins or other decorative embellishments.

If you need to more items, I totally recommend thrift stores, flea markets, and spring DIY projects!

3| Create a Centerpiece

Even if you’re doing an entire tablescape with place settings, a centerpiece is often a non-negotiable.

That’s not to say you MUST have one – it’s your home, you make the decor rules!

But OFTEN, having a focal point or statement piece on the table is usually needed (and sometimes, all you need).

To create a centerpiece, it really can be something as simple as a floral arrangement with fresh flowers from Trader Joe’s or even from your own backyard, right in the center of your table.

You can clip flowering branches or use faux flowers. Spring makes life very easy that way.

The flowers are pretty enough to hold their own.

You can also choose to create a vignette to use as a centerpiece (I give lots of tips for creating a vignette here in this post).

If you go that route, you’ll want to have some kind of anchor – a wood board, a tray, a basket, even a riser or cake stand will work.

Then, choose one central item and add 2 more (odd numbers or groups of 3 are ideal).

You certainly can add more that to fill the space, but if you want to go minimalist, that is really all you need.

For instance, you can choose to create a flower arrangement in a vase or other container (your statement piece), add in a stack of small terracotta pots and a candle (your plus-2 items to create a group of 3).

Place these items on your anchor, and that really is enough for a vignette.

Of course, you can fill in with other items for spring, such as little birds or a birds’ nest with eggs, and add some greenery (lamb’s ear, faux eucalyptus, moss) if you choose a larger anchor.

But simplicity here it totally fine!

Want something a little extra?

If you feel like that is a little boring but don’t want to commit to a tablescape or centerpiece, you can add in Easter centerpieces and decorations when it’s seasonally appropriate: Easter eggs, bunnies, or some Easter crafts.

4| Build a Tablescape from Your Centerpiece

From your centerpiece, build your tablescape (runners, greenery, small vases or jars of flowers, candles, beaded garland, etc.).

And if you are adding place settings, build from your tablescape and add in the necessary items: placemats, dishes, glassware, silverware, linen napkins, decorative embellishments.

As you’re doing this, always remember the style/vibe you want and the color scheme you decided on.

Those choices will lead you and is a better way to decorate your table for spring than just throwing everything together haphazardly.
