Bolles Smashes National High School Record in 200 Medley Relay! (2025 FHSAA Championships) (2025)

A new national record has been set! The Bolles School's boys' 200-medley relay team has shattered the previous high school record, a feat that's sure to make waves in the swimming world. This incredible performance happened at the 2025 FHSAA Swimming and Diving Championships- 1A, held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training in Ocala, FL. The competition took place in a short course yards (SCY) format, specifically 25 yards. A full recap of the meet will be released later.

The Bolles team, composed of seniors Krish Jain, Lucas Young, George Dovellos, and Liam Carrington, clocked an astonishing 1:26.67, surpassing the record of 1:26.75 set earlier in the year by Hinsdale Central (IL).

This victory was just one of three relay wins for Bolles that weekend. They also took first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:20.29) and the 400 free relay (2:55.23). Bolles dominated the race from start to finish, winning by a significant margin of nearly six and a half seconds. Jain kicked things off with a backstroke leg of 21.95. Young followed with a breaststroke split of 24.37. Dovellos then executed a near sub-21 second butterfly leg, clocking in at 21.03, before handing the anchor position to Carrington, who finished strong in 19.32, ultimately setting the new national high school record.

For context, the previous record was established at the 2025 Illinois High School Boys State Championships in February by the Hinsdale Central team, featuring Luke Vatev, Josh Bey, Henry Guo, and Matthew Vatev, with a time of 1:26.75.

Here's an interesting fact: This win marks Bolles' sixth consecutive FHSAA 1A 200 medley relay victory and their seventeenth win in the last eighteen years.

Let's break down the splits and see how Bolles achieved this record-breaking performance:

Splits Comparison:

| | Bolles (New Record) | Hinsdale Central (Former Record) |
|---|---|---|
| Back | Jain – 21.95 | L Vatev – 21.53 |
| Breast | Young – 24.37 | Bey – 24.04 |
| Fly | Dovellos – 21.03 | Guo – 21.01 |
| Free | Carrington – 19.32 | M Vatev – 20.17 |
| Total Time | 1:26.67 | 1:26.75 |

The key difference between the two swims was in the freestyle leg. Carrington's anchor leg was 0.85 seconds faster than Matthew Vatev's. Interestingly, every other leg was slower than that of Hinsdale Central.

But here's where it gets controversial... Could the different splits in each leg be attributed to the training regimens of each team?

Looking ahead, these talented athletes are set to continue their swimming careers at prestigious universities. Jain has committed to Columbia University, Young to Michigan, Dovellos to Harvard, and Carrington to NC State. What do you think about the impact of this performance?
