Designer-Approved Ways to Dress Up Your Kitchen Windows (2024)

Designer-Approved Ways to Dress Up Your Kitchen Windows (1)

There's a lot that goes into a kitchen design — think paint colors, cabinets, countertops and backsplash designs. Window treatments may not be top of mind, but that doesn't mean they aren't important. Whether with curtains, blinds or fabric shades, kitchen window treatments provide privacy and filter light entering your cooking space — plus, they can add a dose of color, texture and pattern. No matter your style, we've rounded up the best kitchen curtain ideas to try in your home.

"Kitchen window treatments elevate a space by making it feel like part of the home as opposed to just an area to cook," says Linda Hayslett, founder of LH.Designs. When shopping for window treatments, the designer suggests considering the location of your windows and the activities that occur nearby. "You don't want anything that's too precious that you'll be worried about all of the time," says Hayslett. Kitchens get messy! Hint: If windows are near the stove or prep station, patterned curtains or shades may do a better job of hiding splatters.

Since window treatments are temporary, they're a great place to experiment with colors and prints, but you'll find plenty of white and neutral ideas as well. We've rounded up inspiration for every style and layout, no matter if you've got a small window over the sink or large window nearby. There are ideas for double and triple windows, too. Not sure where to start? Check out our tutorial on how to hang curtains like a designer.

Let in Light

Light-filtering shades provide privacy without preventing natural light from entering the kitchen — especially important for illuminating your prep station. Here, Dorling Design Studio contrasts a black window with a crisp white shade.
