Spring Decor Ideas and Trends for the Home (2024)

In this post: Spring decorating is more than a ubiquitous spring wreath on the front door. Check out these spring decor ideas and trends for the home.

Once upon a time I used to hang a spring wreath on the front door, step back, level the placement and call it good.

After all, spring decorating didn’t require the effort of the December holidays or even the fall season. I’ve never been much of a gardener, despite my passion for flowers, and I keep vintage garden urns indoors all year round.

Yet somewhere along the way I remembered the joy I felt as a child when my mom freshened up the house with spring cleaning and changed all the linens to the lighter variety, embellished with charming little floral buds.

I also realized that regardless of what I replace them with, the heavy winter textiles and tree bark decor need to be put away.

So, in reality, simply by moving out of winter decor I’ve been decorating for spring all along!

Spring Decor Ideas

In fact, I’m one of those people who gets spring fever the day after Valentine’s Day, long before the first crocus pokes through the frozen ground.

Despite the lingering frost, I’m aching to throw open the windows and welcome in the fresh air.

So it should come as no surprise that I’ve already started to think about spring decor and that this year I’ve vowed to immerse myself in it with complete gusto.

I. am. so. ready.

Today I’m sharing the freshest spring decor ideas and current trends, which are the ones I’ll be starting with in my own home. These are the concepts that work best when it’s not quite warm out yet, but you just know it’s coming and you can’t wait another minute. (Of course they’ll work all season long, as well.)

If ever there was an optimistic way to live your life, it’s by bringing spring into your home just a wee bit early. It’s like taking an early morning walk and waiting for the sun to rise!

Spring Branches

The one commonality among all of these spring decor ideas is their relation to nature. This season is about getting outdoors, and spring decorating celebrates that fact in every way possible.

The first category we’ll look at is spring branches and frankly, if you did nothing else but scatter your home with cherry blossom branches, you will have already achieved a spring look.

Taking into account the over-arching interior trend of warmed up neutrals and nature inspired colors, the branches I’ve curated here embody that organic warmth, with neutral flowers yielding the floor to woodsy stems and green leaves. Hence my preferred cherry blossoms are the whiter variety, along with puss* willows, dogwood stems, peach blossoms, magnolias and olive branches.

You can scroll the selections below or scroll to the bottom of the page where you can shop all the categories together.

Rattan and Cane

Both rattan and cane, along with other woven textures, have been popular for some time, but never are they more à propos than for the spring season. Their use in outdoor furnishings makes us subconsciously associate them with milder weather and their organic composition and warm tones fit perfectly with a season that reveres nature.

Whether used in furniture or accent pieces and accessories, the look is refreshing and instills a relaxed vibe.

Try baskets and trays or vases, bowls and urns. In lighting you can find pendants or lamps with rattan bodies or shades. There are rattan chairs, woven tables, cane front cabinets and every combination of all three.

Light woods are the most popular colors, but you can find every shade from bleached to dark stains, as well.

Green and Greenery

Lest you think I’m shirking color altogether, I assure you that’s not the case. And the number one color for the spring season is green. Fêted everywhere by trend forecasters, green is showing up in paint colors, fabrics, trimmings and more.

The type of green spans the spectrum, but unsurprisingly, the most prevalent are warm toned olives, and the more matte, the better. They impart a feeling of rustic chic, while also mirroring the rebirth that this season welcomes.

Use green in the home in upholstered chairs and painted chests, or in pillows and throws, or try greenery in planters, both real and faux. Green also looks great in woven rugs underfoot.

Oversized Organic Pottery

With all the greenery and branches that the spring season brings, one can’t ignore the vessels that will present them. Oversized organic pottery has become as ubiquitous as the humble door wreath.

The more organic varieties are the freshest and most spring-like, given their homage to nature, with distressed stone, earth-toned woods, aged ceramics and paper mache leading the pack.

The most fun pieces are the large floor vases and table-sized bowls, but every shape and size is represented this season. Display flowers and fruits or simply drape with wooden beads and chain links.

Landscape Art

What better way to salute nature that to depict its imagery through art on canvas? Landscape art has become increasingly popular, and you can hardly scroll Instagram without glimpsing a framed oil leaning against a white-tiled kitchen backsplash.

These vintage pieces are not only a celebration of nature, but they also support a preference for sustainability and personal expression, as compared to mass-produced throw-away culture.

Find pieces that speak to you in antique markets and art galleries, or from one of the many online marketplaces. Some of my current faves are below.

Primitive Accent Pieces

I’ve been a fan of vintage pieces for a long time, so this last category is a natural for me. As my taste for rustic chic becomes all the more rustic, it also becomes quantifiably more chic, given the surge in popularity of primitive accent pieces.

These timeworn mostly wooden pieces are distressed to a beautiful patina, raw, dry, aged and lovely. They say ‘spring’ due to their ode to nature, but will no doubt be present throughout the year.

My favorite pieces, besides the bowls and vessels, are the wooden benches, risers, breadboards and stools.

If, like me, you can hardly wait for the first spring buds to appear on the trees, a little taste of spring decor might be exactly what you need. If you scour the flower markets diligently, you can already find hyacinths with their intoxicating aroma, and then it’s just a few little steps further to dive into some pretty spring decorating.

Fill an oversized organic vase with a few spring branches, toss green pillows on the sofa, add a couple of primitive accents to the coffee table and prop a landscape oil against the wall. Tell me you don’t feel better already!

Of course, you can still put a spring wreath on the front door… 😉
