I’m excited to share with you a delicious high-flavanol hot chocolate drink from the best cacao-drinking chocolate using ceremonial grade cacao.

I discovered ceremonial cacao through an online friend who talked about its benefits as a medicinal plant to restore the nervous system.

I wasn’t aware there was a different type of cacao…

I started researching the benefits of ceremonial cacao and gave it a try. I was so amazed by its taste and the richness of each sip.

It tasted completely different from the conventional organic store cacao I used to buy. Since then, I can say that ceremonial cacao really changed so many areas of my life, and I’d love to explain how in this post and share my daily recipe.

Ceremonial cacao is considered a plant medicine and was used by ancient Mesoamerican civilizations for thousands of years. Whole cacao beans include cocoa butter and all the beneficial compounds.

You get a very creamy and delicious warm drink.

What is Ceremonial Cacao

Ceremonial cacao is different than 99% of the conventional cacao you find at the store. Ceremonial cacao is harvested sustainably and made by fermenting the beans and then stone-grinding them.

Nothing is added or removed to maintain all the nutrients and health benefits.

Unlike processed, conventional dark chocolate, ceremonial cacao is one of the highest sources of antioxidants, high in flavanol, including polyphenols that reduce inflammation and free radicals that damage the brain and body (1).

Each day, I looked forward to that 15 minutes where I could sit and be quiet and just focus on sipping cacao and breathing deeply.

Best Ceremonial Cacao Drink

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 4-5 tbsp of ceremonial grade cacao
  • Collagen protein (optional - I add a scoop of flavorless collagen every morning)
  • Raw honey, if using Pure cacao.

Instructions

  1. Heat up the almond milk in a pan.
  2. Add in the cacao and collagen.
  3. Mix everything together and reduce the heat.
  4. Let it simmer until the cacao melts and mixes well.
  5. I use a frother as well at the end to mix everything very well.

Notes

I share my recipe in the video below. For a thick and creamy cup, I'd warm up the almond milk and blend the cacao. Then re-transfer it to the pot to heat a little more. Take your time and enjoy making your cacao mindfully.
